CQTians receive Singapore National Day Awards

Congratulations to Evon Tan and Lim Siew Hoon
09 August 2020

Each year when Singapore celebrates its birthday, National Day Awards are presented to recognise merit and service to the country. This year, two of CQT’s Admin team are among the recipients: congratulations to Evon Tan on receiving The Commendation Medal and Lim Siew Hoon on receiving The Long Service Medal.

Evon Tan on Singapore National Day 2020 CQT's Evon Tan has received The Commendation Medal.

Evon has supported the Centre for Quantum Technologies since 2007, starting before the Centre was officially launched. Now an Associate Director, her responsibilities span the Centre’s events, industry engagement and public outreach. She is known for both being able to help with any question and to defy causality: Evon will have finished whatever was needed before it was asked for.

The Commendation Medal (Pingat Kepujian) is presented to “persons who has distinguished himself through commendable performance and conduct, or significant efficiency, competence and devotion to duty”.

Group of CQT staff and students at PhD commencement CQT's Lim Siew Hoon has received The Long Service Medal.

Siew Hoon joined CQT more recently to take care of the Centre’s PhD programme, moving from another role in NUS. As the Academic Programme Executive, Siew Hoon handles the needs of both students and their supervisors as they navigate the students’ start in research.

To receive the Long Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Setia), a person must be “of irreproachable character” and have completed at least 25 years’ service in certain fields, including education.

2020 marks Singapore’s 55th birthday, with awards presented on 9 August to 5472 recipients. CQT congratulates Evon and Siew Hoon on their medals!
