Writer's residency to culminate in performance of musical theatre

Eleanor Wong's new physics-inspired work Initial Conditions will be staged on 13 and 14 March
05 March 2015

A first reading of Initial Conditions, a quantum-inspired play by Singaporean writer Eleanor Wong, will take place 13 and 14 March at Centre 42 theatre.

Drawing inspiration from ideas and themes in the quantum world to inform and illumine ordinary life, Initial Conditions is part of a larger meditation on love and relationships in a changing world. This 30-minute reading marks the conclusion of Eleanor's residency at the Centre for Quantum Technologies.

Tickets are free but limited – to reserve tickets please email admin@caketheatre.com

Eleanor Wong was appointed CQT's writer-in-residence from September to December 2014, after the Centre issued an open call to Singapore writers to apply for a "Quantum Immersion". Through weekly meetings with scientists, lab visits and by attending talks, Eleanor delved into the quantum world and saw the small day-to-day steps that science takes to advance human knowledge.

Eleanor has collaborated with Cake Theatrical Productions, helmed by Artistic Director Natalie Hennedige, to stage this reading. It will feature performers Jo Kukathas and Sean Tobin, lighting design by Andy Lim / stage "LIVE" and production design by neontights. The work is staged with support from Centre 42.

CQT has been experimenting with hosting writers and artists since 2011 under its outreach programme. In 2014, CQT hosted not only Eleanor but also cartoonist Otto Fong, who joined the Centre as an Outreach Fellow for six months. He's drawing a comic book for children with quantum physics in the storyline.

The Centre will open applications to Singapore writers for the 2015 Quantum Immersion in April. This residency was launched with advice from and endorsement by Singapore's National Arts Council.
